Robotics Factory Accelerate Program opens applications for next cohort

Aquatonomy participated in the Robotics Factory Accelerate Program’s first cohort.

The Robotics Factory, an initiative cultivating Pittsburgh's booming robotics ecosystem, has opened applications for early-stage companies to participate in its second Accelerate Program cohort. Up to $100,000 in funding and six months of customized business-building support await selectees of the highly competitive program.

Citing explosive global growth predictions of over $230 billion by 2030, the Robotics Factory looks to foster the next generation of innovators across logistics, healthcare, agriculture and other high-impact sectors. Pittsburgh's outsized density of 140+ robotics organizations presents fertile ground.

The inaugural cohort benefited enormously from tailored guidance in product design, identifying target markets, crafting go-to-market plans and securing capital stated administrators. Hands-on manufacturing resources and access to the Robotics Factory's co-working space enabled rapid prototyping as well.

Underwater robotics startup Aquatonomy credits the Accelerate Program for achieving major milestones around market validation, customer pilots, and even fully testing completed prototypes.

"We've learned so much through workshops and opportunities to engage with mentors, investors and customers," said Aquatonomy's Xiaoyu Kaess. "Without the Robotics Factory's support we wouldn't have built so many meaningful connections and made this kind of progress."

Administrators asserted the first cohort received over 500 hours of personalized coaching, 250 more hours from program mentors and 18 skill-building workshops over 6 months.

Other graduates helping refine the program include Cell X Technologies, Grasp Robotics, Leaficient, Velo AI and Voaige - representing diverse specialties from computer vision to bicycle safety.

Open through February 29th, the application process is highly competitive given the resources committed to each incoming company. Those selected take residence in the Robotics Factory's co-working hub with access to a production-grade prototyping workshop and other state-of-the-art facilities.

Tailored business acceleration activities over 6 months also connect participants to the Pittsburgh Robotics Network - seasoned local executives lending invaluable mentorship.

"If you're a founder looking to build your robotics startup, we're here to support that journey," said Robotics Factory head Kevin Dowling.

The Robotics Factory Accelerate Program is primarily funded through a $63 million grant from the Build Back Better Regional Challenge benefiting the broader regional collaborative.
