Police Robot in Abu Dhabi

Robot joins Abu Dhabi police force for patrols and surveillance.

In a pioneering move, a robot has commenced its duties as part of the police force in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, since June of last year.

Developers have announced that after a year of successful operation, the robot has been officially integrated into the facility's workforce, with plans to expand its use across other regions of the UAE. The project aims to deploy similar robots in police departments throughout Dubai, as well as in the northern emirates of Sharjah and Ajman.

Equipped with advanced capabilities, the robot's responsibilities include patrolling, video surveillance of police officers and visitors, temperature monitoring, and law enforcement tasks. Fluent in both English and Arabic, the robot incorporates a specialized linguistic database containing thousands of questions and answers, alongside a sophisticated face recognition system.

Dubbed "Promobot," the robot boasts recognition capabilities for law enforcement personnel, visitors, and individuals on wanted lists. With built-in obstacle sensors and a non-contact thermometer, the device navigates freely, patrols designated areas, and monitors the temperature of police officers and visitors alike.

According to Suhel al-Khaili, executive director of the Abu Dhabi police, extensive testing and integration efforts have ensured the seamless operation of the robot within the police infrastructure. Al-Khaili emphasizes the significant role of the robot in relieving police officers from routine patrol duties, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, where minimizing human contact is paramount.

As technology continues to evolve, the integration of robots into law enforcement represents a forward-thinking approach to enhancing operational efficiency and safety. With robots like Promobot leading the way, the Abu Dhabi police force sets a precedent for innovation in policing, ushering in a new era of smart law enforcement solutions.
