How Odense became a leading robotics city

Robotics leaders such as MiR and UR will exhibit at R-24.

Denmark has emerged as a global leader in robotics, with the city of Odense at the epicenter of this technological transformation. Just 15 years ago, Denmark had little presence in the robotics industry. But heavy investments in collaborative robots (cobots) and a thriving startup ecosystem have put Odense on the map.

The sale of Universal Robots in 2015 and Mobile Industrial Robots in 2018 demonstrated the strength of Odense's cobot cluster. Today over 160 robotics companies call Odense home, employing 3,600 people. The regional industry group Odense Robotics nurtures this community, with over 300 member companies and nearly 20,000 employees nationwide. By 2025, over 24,000 Danes are expected to work in robotics.

Experts attribute Denmark's robotics leadership to a collaborative culture that encourages knowledge sharing between companies, government, and academia. The University of Southern Denmark ensures a pipeline of qualified talent, while entities like Odense Robotics facilitate cluster growth. As a result, Danish robotics continues to expand globally, exporting innovative solutions worldwide.

Odense will showcase its progress by hosting R-24, a premier European robotics event, this March. Attendees will witness firsthand why Odense has become a world leader in advanced automation and AI. Denmark's formula for robotics success provides a model for countries seeking to capitalize on this transformative technology.
